We are a protestant community in ecumenical openness at Uni Bielefeld. Our guiding image is the house of God: "In God's house there are many rooms" (John 14:2). And this house really exists — the ESG house is cosy and has room for everyone.
Every single person is like a living stone that shapes the house and helps build it.
A heartfelt welcome — we look forward to meeting you!
Community
At our core, it's about people: encounters, conversations, and time spent together. The semester kicks off with the semester-opening buffet, and during the term we fire up the grill for the get-together BBQ night or meet for a games night.
You'll find what's on right now under events — and our regular evening offerings under groups.
International
International students are an integral part of our community. Every two weeks we meet for the international evening — with background information on development policy in countries of transformation. We also advocate for the interests of international students.
If you find yourself in financial hardship as an international student, you can apply for support from the ecumenical emergency fund run by "Brot für die Welt" (Bread for the World). Just get in touch with us — you can reach us via the contact page.
Spirituality
We give you time and space for your own faith. Together we celebrate worship services — such as the start-of-semester service — and pray at the Taizé prayers. As a protestant community, we are ecumenical and open to other opinions and forms of faith.
Pastoral care
The individual person is at the heart of what we do. We accompany you in questions of life and faith, in relationship conflicts, or when you're struggling to find your way. Our university chaplain and the team are there for you: spontaneously in passing, in acute situations, or by appointment. Everything stays confidential.
The team
Our university chaplain Ulrich Melzer and a student leadership team make up the team. You can reach the team via the contact page.
