We take data protection seriously. This website collects only the data we need to run the site and our activities — and we explain in plain language what happens to it.
Legal basis: DSG-EKD
As a church body, the applicable law for us is not the EU GDPR itself but the German Datenschutzgesetz der EKD (DSG-EKD, in force since 24.05.2018), which builds on the requirements of the EU GDPR. The definitions can be found in § 4 DSG-EKD. More information: datenschutz.ekd.de
Who is responsible
The body responsible within the meaning of the DSG-EKD is the Evangelische Studierendengemeinde Bielefeld — address and contact as in the imprint. We are a public-law corporation, represented by the community leadership (Gemeindeleitung) and the university chaplain Ulrich Melzer.
You can reach the data protection officer of the EKvW at: Karoline Podzorski-Steidl, Das Landeskirchenamt, Dezernat 42/43, Altstädter Kirchplatz 5, 33602 Bielefeld, phone +49 521 594-520.
Server log files
When you visit this website, the server temporarily processes access data in log files — for example your IP address, the date and time, the page you requested and your browser type. We need this data for the smooth operation of the website, for stability and security, and to fend off unauthorised access attempts.
No user profiles are created; the data is not passed on to third parties and is deleted regularly after a short period.
Contact form & e-mail
On the contact page you only need to fill in your name and your message — the e-mail address is optional. We process your details exclusively to answer your enquiry; they are forwarded from the form to the ESG by e-mail and stored there until your enquiry has been fully dealt with, then deleted.
Legal basis: § 6 (4) DSG-EKD (performance of a task in the interest of the church).
Event sign-ups
Selected events offer a sign-up button. To handle your sign-up, we process your name, e-mail address — plus, where asked, the number of people and any remarks — and the title of the event.
To prevent abuse (spam and bots), the server also checks your IP address for a short time: a maximum of 5 sign-ups per 10 minutes per IP. It is kept in the server's memory only for a few minutes — never stored permanently, and no profile is created.
Legal bases: the sign-up data is processed according to § 6 (4) DSG-EKD or on the basis of consent; the abuse protection is in the interest of the church.
Cookies, tracking, analytics
This website does entirely without: no cookies, no analytics or tracking services, no advertising networks and no social plugins. Fonts and all images are delivered by us directly. Which is why there is no cookie banner to click away here.
Audio hosted at Cloudflare
The audio pieces of the Impuls blog are delivered from the object storage Cloudflare R2. When you play an audio piece, your browser fetches the audio file from Cloudflare; your IP address is transmitted to Cloudflare in the process. The connection data is used solely for delivery — no tracking, no cookies.
Provider: Cloudflare, Inc., 3665 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, CA 95051, USA. Transmission to the USA is possible in the process. Legal basis: § 6 (4) DSG-EKD. Details in the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Transfer security
Your data is transferred to and from this website encrypted (HTTPS). Complete protection during data transmissions on the internet is not possible, however — and please remember: e-mail is generally unencrypted. If you want to tell us something confidential, it is better to call.

You have the right at any time to:
- access (§ 19 DSG-EKD)
- rectification (§ 20 DSG-EKD)
- erasure (§ 21 DSG-EKD)
- restriction of processing (§ 22 DSG-EKD)
